Let's Get Digital - Get Online Week 2013

Go ON it’s liverpool Celebrates Get Online Week with launch of two new employment initiatives

Monday 14th October at Toxteth Library, Windsor Street, L8 at 10am – 11am

“Go ON it’s liverpool” will launch the national Get Online week in the city on Monday 14th October at Toxteth Library at 10am – join us to hear about the opportunities available!

Two initiatives will be launched to help residents gain skills and employment on Monday 14th October

GTDT (Granby Toxteth Development Trust) will be running an “IT for Employment” drop-in course at the Library every Monday from 10.30am from the 14th October (call 0151 734 4925 to book a place) and also an “IT for the Terrified” course in the afternoon

The “IT for Employment” course is aimed at helping job seekers get to grips with Universal Job Match and job hunting online and will be held in the ICT  training suite at Toxteth Library on a Monday morning.  The National Careers Service, will be complementing this course by offering CV Building sessions from 28th October at the same time in Toxteth Library.

The courses are a product of the partnership approach of the Go ON it’s liverpool campaign, where voluntary organisations have been working with the DWP, with housing associations, and with the libraries to help people gain IT skills. The launch will be attended by Cabinet members Cllr Nick Small and Cllr Steve Munby , and other local partners, to mark the start of the national Get Online Week... all are invited to hear about the opportunities available and the work of the Go ON it’s Liverpool Campaign

Cllr Small says: “the provision of these courses by the Go ON partners in the library is crucial to provide accessible learning opportunities to help people find work. The Council is very pleased to be here to support these initiatives which mark the start of Get Online week in the city”

This year, the seventh annual Get Online Week campaign takes place from 14- 20 October. Run by Tinder Foundation and their network of UK Online Centres, the campaign encourages everyone in Britain to get digital for the week.
There are still 7.2 million people in the UK who have never used the internet before, and many more who don’t have the skills to make the most of online life.
Thousands of Get Online Week events will take place across the country during October where everyone can get a helping hand to get digital whatever their level of skill and confidence.
